Africanized Honeybees – Caron – US
Africanized killer bees were introduced into southern Brazil from Africa in the 1950s. From Brazil they escaped and gradually migrated north, reaching the US in 1990. Africanized bees are more aggressive than other bees found in North America and have caused several deaths of people stung by the bees. Here Prof. Dewey Caron examines the biology of the Africanized honey bee and traces the spread of the bees northwards and the impact of the bee on North American agriculture and beekeeping.
