Quilt boxes are insulating and moisture regulating boxes placed between the hive boxes and hive lid during winter. There is screen attached to the bottom of the box that prevents the bees from accessing the quilt box.
Our quilt boxes come with raw alpaca fleece (a local, sustainable by-product) as the quilting material. Alapaca fleece is highly insulating and anti-microbial.
While more often used in Warre hives, give a quilt box a go for your Langstroth hive this winter.
